In June 1, 2017 10 in the morning, Weiyu building 117, Dr. Cai Bofeng from the Ministry of Environmental Protection gave a speech entitled: “Chinese landfill methane emission and odor impact”. Faculty members and students of the IEF attended the seminar.
Dr. Cai Bofeng started the topic with an overview of landfill, which has become a global climate change problem (methane emission source) and regional environmental health problem. In China, there are more than 2000 registered landfill sites, which will be China's main city garbage’s treatment approach. Then Dr. Cai puts forward an innovative research approach to collect each landfill’s data, which greatly enhance the verifiability of the data. Dr. Cai also demonstrates the influence of landfill sites on health, and analyzes the potential solution for methane emission reduction. Dr. Cai’s research fully reflects the role of big data in modern scientific research.
Dr. Cai’s came up with new ideas and methods during this one and half hours seminar. Some teachers aksed questions about the veracity of the date. They also put forward the idea of collaboration during the meeting, by combination of the theory and practice.
